Whoop, Whoop!!! Vida Nueva!!

This morning has seen a flurry of activity.  I awoke to my wife’s phone cranking out christian tunes through a tiny little speaker from across the room.  I though for a moment that she downloaded the chipmunk christian music app.  We are getting ready to head to Vida Nueva for the boys weekend.  (For those of you un-familiar with Vida Nueva, you can check it out here vntb.com.)  Both Mindy and I have the privilege of serving this weekend.  And, we are doubly blessed because we have 4 young men from our church attending.  We can’t wait to see what God does in their lives this weekend!

While we are very excited for these young men, we are equally excited about serving.  We know that when we act out our Christian faith, it is so rewarding on so many levels.  These weekends are set-apart, yes holy.   While we are waiting for the weekend to begin with great anticipation, I can’t help but think that we need to live every day with that same anticipation, knowing that God is going to do mighty works in the lives of people around us, and in our own lives.  I realize some of you haven’t yet had the experience of Vida Nueva, or Tres Dias (you will).  So I’ll give you a quick description that I know you can relate to.  Think of the feeling you get on Christmas Eve, all the presents are wrapped, set under the tree, and you have to sleep through the entire night before you can watch those special people open the very special gifts you picked out/made for them.

These weekends are difficult to describe because God is so extraordinary.  The fact is, God is that extraordinary every day of our lives.  We can choose to walk through the day knowing that this extraordinary, loving, merciful God is with us, singing over us, every moment, or not.  We are free to live a spiritual life in Christ and we are free to live a flesh life in the world.  The saving work of Christ’s sacrificial death freed us from the bonds of sin.  His resurrection conquered the power of death in our lives.  When we accept these facts, and believe it was done for us — me, then there is nothing that can take that away.

To walk in that freedom, we must also sacrifice those things that hold us in bondage and keep us bound to this world.  The life that Christ offers us is new life (vida nueva) in Him.  It requires that we chase after him with all that we are.  As we do that, all that we are will become more like Him.  Paul said it like this:

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

If we walk each day in that truth, that promise, imagine the things He can do through us to bless those around us.  We need to walk in the freedom of His love and saving grace with great anticipation and expectation that He is an extraordinary God willing to do extraordinary things in and through our lives because He sees His Son in us and because that is who He is.

Heavenly Father, you are amazing!  Thank you for the opportunity of serving You and Your children this weekend!  Give is the strength and courage to carry out all that You require.  Grant us the wisdom to move in your grace.  I will walk in Your freedom because Your Son, Jesus Christ, set me free indeed!  I will live today with great expectation and anticipation for what You will do through me.  Amen.

That’s kinda how I feel about each day. Great anticipation and desire to do God’s will.
Kinda puny compared to Tres Dias, I guess.

Not at all… That’s it. You get it!
