This morning Mindy hosted an (in)RL Conference at our house for the women of Christ Fellowship. So, after all the prep work was done and Lucy (my Jack Russell terrier) and I headed out so we weren’t in the way of those wonderful women. Lucy would have wined the entire time because she likes to get in the middle of any action that is going on. I knew just what I was going to do with Lucy, thanks to running into a dog-walking, Pinellas trail buddy while at the Publix deli this morning. We chatted a few minutes about our dogs and he told me about a dog park in the Countryside area of Clearwater. So off we headed.
When we arrived, I had Lucy in her harness and on a leash. In our neighborhood, she takes off following her nose, so I was a little hesitant to let her run free. After seeing that the park was completely fenced in and all the other dogs were free-roaming, I decided to give it a try. At first, Lucy stayed fairly close to me. The other dogs obviously had plenty of experience with the park. Lucy, on the other hand was a bit intimidated by the dog pack. There were quite a few. When it got a little overwhelming, she turned and headed for the entrance, then running in different direction, looking for something that would give her safety. After several calls, she finally saw me and came running. We headed down a little less populated trail where she started to relax a bit, but staying quite close. We continued walking the back trails and she slowly became comfortable meeting other dogs one-on-one, or two-on-one. By time we made it back to the central area, she was ready to get in the mix with the pack. She played, and ran with the other dogs so hard that she fell asleep in the car on the way home.
So what does this have to do with the Gospel? This simple truth, as we go through life, we will be in situations that our Heavenly Father brings us to for our growth, benefit, and His glory. Sometimes they will be frightening, but if we know who we are in Him and listen for His voice, He will direct our steps so that we grow in the experiences He brings us through. We have to be confident in His grace and sovereignty. When we are, we are His light in a dark world.
And Finally, check out this post by my wife, Mindy. Here. I know this challenge is for women, but I am going to be doing it right along side Mindy. I know I need all the positive in my life I can get!
